Movie Premieres » "The Smurfs" Premieres in New York City

The little blue characters have carved a place in pop culture history over the years, and "The Smurfs" are back in action with a brand new theatrical movie set to hit theaters in less than a week.

In preparation of the film's release, stars of the family-friendly adventure including Sofia Vergara, Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays and Katy Perry took to the blue carpet at a premiere extravaganza in New York City on Sunday (July 24).

Held at the Ziegfield Theatre, other stars on hand checking out the premiere of "The Smurfs" included fellow cast members George Lopez and Hank Azaria, as well as actress Brooke Shields and socialite/designer Olivia Palermo.

As for the film, the Raja Gosnell directed project based on the classic series tells the tale of an evil wizard named Gargamel who chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, after which they tumble from their magical world and into ours.

Due in theaters July 29th, "The Smurfs" also stars Tim Gunn, Madison McKinley, Meg Phillips and Mark Doherty.
