Johnny Depp Selling Out? You Bet!
Johnny Depp has no qualms about continuing to play Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The actor, who once appeared in such art-house and critics' favorites as Cry-Baby, Edward Scissorhands, What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, Benny & Joon and Donnie Brasco, now earns from each Pirates movie as much as the entire budgets of each of those films.
He told Vanity Fair , "Basically, if they're going to pay me the stupid money right now, I'm going to take it." Suggesting that he already has more money than he knows what to do with, Depp added, "At this point, it's for my kids. It's ridiculous, yeah, yeah. But ultimately is it for me? No. No. It's for the kids." The magazine says that, with back-end profit sharing, Depp has earned about $300 million from the Pirates franchise.
